Figma’s other great paradigm advancement over Photoshop is that the canvas is expansive and open (just like Illustrator), whereas Photoshop keeps everything constrained to a single page. Photoshop tried to add multiple art boards as it saw people jumping to Sketch, but it’s a hack, and your document slows and slows as you add more, because on the back side, you’re actually making a 30,000px wide document that gets displayed as lots of tiny screens. Figma’s expansive page makes it so much easier to write notes in the margin, annotate artboards with task lists and tags, gather sticky notes in messy piles, and anything else that make the GUI desktop better than the command line. It lets you keep more of the work closer to your project. In the past, I’d have folders of notes, pictures, PSDs, videos. Now all that file organization takes place inside a Figma canvas. The notes and documentation can follow the work, instead of being tangental to it, and accidentally separated from it.
